SOOT STUDIO
A hand-inked cartoon house: storyboards, in-betweens, smoke & ink — two cups and a kettle drawing faster than the film can roll.
NOW RUNNING WHAT WE SHOOT
Three houses of work under one ink-stained roof. Every picture starts pencil-first, every frame earns its popcorn.
3-to-7-minute hand-inked stories with real smoke, rubber arms and a jazz cue bounced on the metronome.
INK: 12 REELS / YEAROpening credits lettered by brush, bounced on the beat — for theatres, podcasts and talking pictures alike.
INK: 40 TITLES / YEARLobby cards and wall-sized paint for exhibitions in the 1934 colour wheel. No two prints identical.
INK: SILENT ARTEON THE EASEL TODAY
— every exhibit here was finished before the whistle. Ask the kettle: ring him →
FROM THE LEDGER
The house rules taped above the drawing desks — same ink since 1934.
No painting before the gag survives being told to the kettle out loud. If you laugh — it lives.
SIGNED: MUGMANEvery second holds exactly 24 frames. Stretch a gag to 25 and the kettle will hear it squint.
SIGNED: CUPHEADAnimators and developers talk before the frame, not after. Borrowed, with thanks, from whoisguilty.com.
SIGNED: THE KETTLE«A five-minute short that took eleven months — and every second of the wait is on the screen.» — THE INKWELL GAZETTE
«When the metronome and the pencil disagree, the metronome wins. Then the pencil apologises.» — MUGMAN, ledger p.212
Every finished reel is screened for the kettle. If it nods — Mugman does his two-step (above, live). If it doesn't — back to the pencils, and the dance waits.
